New Dayang Shipbuilding, a key player in SUMEC’s shipbuilding division, has secured its first order for four product tankers from an undisclosed owner. This marks a significant strategic shift for the yard, which has traditionally focused on constructing bulk carriers and containerships.
«We are capitalizing on the expanding oil and chemical tanker market, forging a partnership with a renowned global shipowner to build these four state-of-the-art tankers,» noted SUMEC. The new contract is expected to diversify the shipyard’s portfolio, reducing operational risks while enhancing its product offerings.
The tankers, designed to be methanol-ready, will integrate advanced intelligent systems and uphold a high standard of environmental performance. Scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2028, these vessels will contribute to the shipyard’s growing reputation for innovation and sustainability.
In 2024, SUMEC Marine has also expanded its client base, securing new partnerships with key stakeholders across Japan, Taiwan, the Middle East, and North Africa, further solidifying its presence in the global shipping market.
